Society's Important Television Shows
Since the television was invented many great shows have came and gone and some have left their impact on society. I feel that the following three in particular are the most important shows of all time.
The Cosby Show: The Cosby Show is important to society because it portrayed an African-
American family that was different than the stereotype. The show often dealt with problems and solutions that were educational for families and for teens (i.e. the episode where Theo gets caught with weed) but still always lightened the mood with Bill Cosby's humor. The show broke boundaries being the #1 ranked show five out of the eight years that it was telelvised. The show reached a broad audience being that people watched it no matter their color. Also the show allowed people to understand that there is a black middle class filled with educated individuals. The show is one that will never be forgotten. The Oprah Winfrey Show: Oprah's show is one of the most important
because of it's impact on the world. Her show has been televised for 20 years and she is one of the most infuential people in the world. She reaches people of all kinds: rich, poor, black, white; her fan base has no limits. But one very important thing about Oprah is that unlike alot of other stars, she doesn't have to change herself to be popular; she defines her show and that kind of power is the type most stars only dream of. Also her show is often imitated but never duplicated. A lot of talk shows have came and gone over the past two decades but she remains the last woman standing and that says a lot.Chappelle's Show: I know, when you here that your like What? But I feel
that Chappelle's Show is important because it is so raw. He says what he feels and it is often what a lot of people are thinking. He has a keen sense of knowing what his fans want to here and puts it out there. Chappelle also brings light to political and racial issues that often wouldn't be ridiculed on television but he does it comedically and is very successful with it. Mainly I feel that Chappelle's show is important because he talks about whatever he feels like and reaches a big crowd of people. He brings comedy to situations like race that would often be uncomfortable for the average person to discuss aloud with other races and brings us closer together in knowing that everyone thinks its funny not just one race.
